Replacement costs for wholesale pistachio shipments have continued to rise in the last few months, despite record supplies from last year's huge US and Iranian crops. The background issues remain much as explained in the spring edition of TSM - a lower percentage of large, top quality nuts within the high US total, increased incidences of aflatoxin and insect damage and, for the Iranian produce, growing markets outside of the traditional large European customers now competing for supplies.
