In spite of comments by the Chancellor of the Exchequer about the difficulty of getting to Oxford University, my researches show there has never been such a good train service from London! For most of the 1940s, I used the Paddington-Oxford route at the beginning and end of each school or university term. When I was planning a visit in June this year, today's vastly increased services were much appreciated, and I was surprised to discover that it is now possible to travel by through train from Paddington to Glasgow. Accordingly, this month I'm reviewing the services between Paddington and Oxford as I have known them over more than half a century.
