摘要

In the late 1950s, railway enthusiasts didn't have access to the vast plethora of up-to-the-minute information available today. Unless you were lucky enough to know someone who worked on the railway, you had to rely on the stock change pages in The Railway Magazine or the tiny handful of competitors it had in those days - and even then the information could be two or three months out of date. This didn't affect our enthusiasm though. Every lad seemed to be a spotter in those days and I was doubly fortunate in having a decent rail journey every day, from home in Barnoldswick to secondary school in Keighley. In addition, many of the classrooms of our school overlooked the Leeds-Carlisle main line - the famous Ais Gill route. The temptations for us 'Tykes' are obvious! I think some of the teaching staff were rail enthusiasts, too, although they would never admit to it.
