CrossCountry 170 gets internal refurb

CrossCountry Trains has completed the first internal refurbishment of its Class 170 DMU fleet upgrade. Three-car unit No. 170397 re-entered service on May 19 with additional seats and more luggage space following a redesign of the interior. Space has been found for a further 28 seats by replacing the first class seats in the centre vehicle with standard class seats and by realigning the seats and making changes to the luggage stacks in other carriages. In addition, there is a dedicated space for cycles. The work will also see the removal of the buffet counter in the ten centre cars that were originally in Midland Mainline sets Nos. 170101-110. The reworking is being carried out at Transys Projects' depot in Clacton, where similar upgrades were carried out for the TransPennine Class 170s.
