Southall Open Days On 'new' Site

The Great Western Railway Preservation Group (GWRPG) hopes to start a 2009 series of open days, possibly in August.rnThe group's lease for revised land encompassing three sidings on the south side of the site (RM Feb) should soon be finalised. Although suitable for stock storage, these lines require upgrading before they can be used for public rides.rnThe overhaul of RSH 0-4-0ST Birkenhead is almost complete. The boiler has been hydraulically tested and is back in the frames with a steam test anticipated by the end of March. Peckett 0-4-0ST William Murdoch is also available for use. One of these locos will be available for hire to another railway this season. With upgrading of the track so that the GWRPG can re-open the Southall site to the public being its top priority, a special celebration of the 150th anniversary of the adjacent freight-only Brentford branch now looks unlikely.
