German Railways chairman Dr Rudiger Grube has confirmed the company's intention to run an intercity express (ICE) test train through the Channel Tunnel and along HS1 to St Pancras International.rnThe proposed date of the trial is October 19 and the train is expected to be a ICE3M set.rnDB says the run is part of its preparations for a regular through service to London, in competition with Eurostar.rnICE3 units do not meet current rules for carrying passengers through the Channel Tunnel, but Siemens' has this year unveiled the Class 407 'Velaro D' version, which operates on four voltages and possesses additional fire safety measures.rnThe new trains - which were developed specifically for international services - are built at Krefeld Works,rnalongside the ScotRail Class 380 EMUs.
