Class 15 Paxman engine started up

An important landmark in the extensive restoration of unique Class 15 No. D8233 was reached at Bury on June 19, when its Paxman 16YHXL engine was started up for the first time in preservation.rnThis exercise utilised Class 20 No. 20087, which had its own power unit disconnected, and was linked to No. D8233's engine via the newly-overhauled BTH generator.rnA couple of car batteries powered the solenoid and a battery charger powered thernoil-priming pump. When the starter was pressed, it all worked and the Class 15, with cab and rear nose end removed, burst into life. The engine was run for a short while and following checks, was turned off. When restarted, it ran for an hour.
