Russia displays its wares

RUSSIA displayed its many new types of locos and multiple units at the third Expo 1520 held in Scherbinka, a southern Moscow suburb, on September 7-10. For the first time, these were shown taking part in cavalcades of locos, units and trains on a double-track test line, the cavalcades including at the start some well-known steam types such as a Class Eu 0-10-0, an L class 2-10-0 and an express passenger 4-8-4 of Class P36. One of the electric locomotives shown was 2ES10-002, from the Sverdlovskaya Railway in the Middle Urals. This loco had earlier this year hauled a record 10,000 tonne freight train. The pictures show 3,000V d.c. Co-Co express passenger electric locomotive No. EP2K-117 in a cavalcade (above), on September 8 with several other modern locos behind it. Also on display was EPG-002, a Stadler FLIRT EMU, below, delivered to the railways of Belarus for suburban services around Minsk and similar to many across Europe.
