RESTORATION of the National Railway Museum's Class 55'Deltic' No. 55002 The King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry was completed in time for the loco's debut at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway diesel gala on September 16-18. It also appeared at the Wensleydale Railway diesel event the following weekend, performing well after its thorough overhaul at York. It has since attended the Deltic 50 event at Shildon on October 8-9 (see Headline News) and the East Lancashire Railway's 'Deltic' event on October 15-16. Such has been the success and popularity of the loco's return to operation on heritage lines that a new appeal for a further £25,000 has been launched to prepare the loco for a return to the main line. This funding is required for the installation of OTMR and TPWS equipment, registration of the engine and various mechanical updates.
