East Coast express evacuated

Passengers were evacuated from an inter-city express in the middle of the East Coast Main Line on December 21. The unusual decision to let the public climb down onto the track using ladders was taken after the pantograph of the Class 91 powering the 06.15 King's Cross-Edinburgh became entangled in the overhead wires in freezing conditions near Huntingdon. The passengers were walked to safety along the ballast and the ECML remained closed for most of the day. Picture: PA.
