RUS fuels West Midlands consultations

With greater numbers of passengers using rail in the West Midlands and over the Chiltem route, predictions are that numbers could increase by up to 32 per cent over the next decade. In a move to combat possible overcrowding, Network Rail has published a draft West Midlands & Chilterns Route Utilisation Strategy (RUS) that recommends a way forward to provide more capacity. NR proposes that longer trains operate on routes from Birmingham, including Hereford and Shrewsbury. There is a proposal for a new through service between Tamworth and Worcester/Hereford via Birmingham New Street to improve connections across the West Midlands.
