Boiler lift for 2857

Rapidly following re-wheeling of the 2857 Society's GWR 2-8-0 No. 2857 (RM Jan), the boiler was lifted into the frames at Bridgnorth on November 20 after an official steam test on November 15. The boiler overhaul has been undertaken since 2004 largely by society volunteers under the supervision and guidance of the SVR boilershop foreman. The work has encompassed a new smokebox, two new tubepiates, repairs to the bottom sides to the firebox outer wrapper and strengthening patches on all four firebox corners plus fitting new stays and tubes. A new chimney is being made, plus a new cast blower ring and new petticoat pipe.
