An investigation is being carried out into a serious incident involving a passenger train on the Tonbridge-Hastings line after a Class 375 EMU was unable to stop. The train, the 06.45 Charing Cross-Hastings service, ended up sliding uncontrollably for almost two and a half miles. It was approaching Stonegate station at around 65mph, when the driver applied the brakes for a scheduled halt, only to find that his train had lost adhesion. The investigation will look at the maintenance of the train and its brakes, and also activities relating to rail head treatment.
