Starts from 'The cross'

In Part One of this article, I looked at the ways in which main line locomotives, from Stirling Singles to Ivatt Atlantics and their Pacific successors, tackled the start from King's Cross and the climb to Potters Bar. But what of the 'also-rans': the N2 0-6-2Ts in the 'Met' Link and the LI 2-6-4Ts and various 4-6-0s on the Cambridge semi-fasts? A trawl of the Railway Performance Society website revealed logs by Peter Smith and Richard Knight, both regular users of the King's Cross 'suburbans' in the late 1950s.
