PLAYING THE ROADS AT THEIR OWN GAME

With the Circle Line and the Orbital line, London now has an inner circle and an outer circle and when the recently approved East-West Link line has opened, it will also have the equivalent of a bypass. The city's Mayor, Boris Johnson, has destcribed the Orbital Line as "the rail equivalent of the M25", but it is actually more akin to the North and South Circular roads, hence our strapline at the top of this spread. The East-West rail link, although quite a lot further out than the M25, will eventually be a more appropriate comparison with the north-western section of that motorway.
