Butterley to help mark Derby 175

Events to mark 175 years of locomotive and rolling stock construction in Derby will continue at the Midland Railway - Butterley in October, following on from the Etches Park open day (see Headline News). The steam focus of the event will be Caprotti valve gear Standard 5MT No. 73129, which was one of the last steam locos to be built in the town in 1956. The 4-6-0 will be running at Butterley for the first time since its summer hire stint at the Severn Valley Railway ended in late September. The Standard 5MT will be withdrawn for overhaul in 2015, with its loan from Derby Museums Trust due for renewal in 2019. Although not a 'runner', the October 11 -12 event at MR-B will also focus on Matthew Kirtley's 1866 No. 158A. The loco is usually on permanent display inside Swanwick Junction's exhibition hall, which is named after the 2-4-0's designer.
