Battery shunters favoured by DB Schehker

Dbschenker (DBS) has taken delivery of two battery-electric shunters that will be used at its maintenance depots at Crewe and Toton. The shunters are Zephir 1800e CRAB machines, with DBS being the first rail freight operator to take on these units. The shunters are capable of pulling or pushing 400 tonnes with a maximum drawbar pull of 20 kN in the dry and 16kN in the wet. This means that in dry conditions the unit will be capable of moving up to three Class 66 locomotives at a time.
