NORTHERN Ireland Railways has invested £4million in a 5ft 3in-gauge Windhoff multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) to enable leaf clearance to take place during the autumn months. The German specialist train uses high-powered water jets to clear the rails of leaf residue before applying a sand-like coating to prevent further adhesion issues.
