THE annual fare increase to take effect in January will be 2.8% -the figure being based on the July retail price index. The much-promised new trains are beginning to filter onto the network, but passengers remain unhappy that the overall cost of train travel has risen by 46% since 2009. Transport Focus director David Sidebottom said:"After a year of more stable, but still patchy, rail performance many rail passengers will be mystified rail fares should be going up at all, let alone by 2.8% next January."
