摘要

AS Tony Berkeley's comment (with which this will alternate for the foreseeable future) is written by an industry insider, I have been asked to compile this one from an observer's point of view. As such, I'll be able to take stock of both the network and the heritage movement and ask myself some of the questions you must ask yourselves every day as you travel around by train or read magazines, newspapers, websites and social media. It's a thought-provoking time to be launching a new column with 'Brexit' looming, and it will be intriguing to see the impact it has on our railway industry. 'Up and Down Lines' won't merely reflect current affairs, though... I'll also be keeping an eye on the many facets of history and nostalgia that make the vast subject of railways such a fascination for us all. So it's 'up' for good, 'down' for bad, and 'lines' for text (or opinions).
