It therefore focuses chiefly on the operating processes for which the railway infrastructure operator is responsible, such as operastions infrastrukture planning, scheduling and train monitoring and control. The article outlines the state of the art of computer-assisted rail planning and operation systems, discusses a selection of technical issues that arise and, with these in mind, suggests objectives for the further development of these systems.
