This installment will discuss the selection, screening, training and monitoring of your staff simulators. These are the trainers who actually get into those expensive suits and carry out the scenarios. Well trained and well monitored simulators can be an agency's most effective asset in conducting this type of vigorous and intense training. The intensity levels and stress factors that are deliberately planned into confrontational simulations require that those selected as simulators must have the ability to remain calm in the midst of chaos and not let the stress levels of the trainees have a negative impact on them. If a simulator becomes caught up in the stress levels, hyperventilation, dizziness and poor judgment can easily overtake them. Therefore it's essential that the lead instructors have a good grasp of the simulators' emotional assets and deficiencies, as well as their physical ones.
