Australia outlines new maritime investments in 2020 Force Structure Plan

Australia has set out ambitious plans to strengthen and modernise its maritime defence capabilities in response to changes to the strategic environment in the Indo-Pacific region, most notably the rapid emergence of China as an increasingly assertive regional power. Maritime capability investment worth approximately A$75 billion (US$54.1 billion) is planned over the next decade. This includes the acquisition of new submarines, frigates, sealift/afloat support vessels, and mine countermeasures (MCM)/hydrographic survey assets.
