Sprinkler technology for ro-ro cargo decks

SP Fire Technology, part of the Swedish Technical Research Institute, has recently carried out a series of trials of modern sprinkler technology in ships, by tackling a fire in a goods vehicle model.rnThe project is being undertaken under the name of IMPRO, 'Improved waterbased fire suppression and drainage systems for roro vehicle decks'. An important element of the work is how to determine the necessary capacity of a sprinkler system to ensure that it is effective, while another part of the work is concerned with determining the performance of sprinkler systems currently being installed.
