The concept of central and local government partnerships is alive and well at the LGA, as chief executive Brian Briscoe explains. The meeting between the Deputy Prime Minister and LGA chair Sir Jeremy Beecham on the Sunday after 1997 's General Election marked the beginning of a new era of central/local relations. In the meetings with new ministers over the subsequent three weeks we identified more than 50 areas of joint working between civil servants and the LGA.
