Congratulations to the newly elected Board of Direction members, who will be sworn in this spring. Overall, the Board of Direction comprises six National Officers, 12 Elected Directors, Regional Vice Presidents, Community of Interest Chairs, and several non-voting positions. Voting was held online from March 1 to April 15,2021, in accordance with SAME's bylaws. In May, Rear Adm. Mark Handley, P.E., F.SAME, USN (Ret.), will be sworn in as the 102nd SAME President. Currently President-Elect and Chair of the Academy of Fellows, he joined SAME in 1995. Professionally, Handley is Senior Vice President of Federal Programs at AECOM. Prior to retiring from the U.S. Navy, he commanded the First Naval Construction Division (Seabees). Other senior assignments include Vice Commander, Navy Installations Command; Director of Shore Readiness for the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (Logistics); and Commanding Officer, NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic. Within SAME, he has served as Chair of the Energy & Sustainability Community of Interest (2015-2018), was a founding member of the Investment Committee, and Hampton Roads Post 1st Vice President (2005-2006). He was named a Fellow in 2017. A graduate of Villanova University, Handley holds a Masters of Engineering (Construction) from Stanford University.
