Kicking Off Our Second Century...and Beyond!

First and foremost, I want to thank Buddy Barnes for his tremendous leadership and extremely active engagement as SAME President. It was no surprise to any who know Buddy well that his presidency would be a continuity of the amazing and dedicated service he has given SAME. It is fitting that last year Buddy achieved 50 years of membership-a truly memorable milestone, but one that hardly slowed him down from sprinting to the start of our second century! In March, COVID-19 hit hard. Life changed fast-at home, at work, in our communities, and for organizations like SAME, including forcing the decision to not hold JETC as an in-person event, and with it, our long-awaited Centennial Kickoff Celebration. The word "adapt" quickly took on new meaning. Through all the uncertainties, I will always remember Buddy as the leader who stayed positive and unruffled, embraced the changes in direction, and kept leading us forward. We owe him and the entire National Leadership Team a huge debt of gratitude for their stewardship through this pandemic.
