I am thankful to organizers of Indian Mathematical Society for asking me to deliver the Thirteenth P.L. Bhatnager Memorial Lecture. I regard it indeed a great privilege. Prof. Bhatnagar was like a teacher to me. I had an opportunity to participate in a symposium organized by him at Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore in 1959 and since then he helped me in my academic growth in many Ways.
