Last Christmas, 44 of our fellow BALPA members suffered the uniquely brutal experience of being axed from their collapsing company, Flyglobespan, with absolutely no warning, notice period or redundancy package - not even the Government statutory one for a while. Many were marooned down route relying on the generosity of others to get home.rnThe need to help and support them wherever possible was evident and immediate, so, at the suggestion of some working members "to do something to help this Christmas", a BALPA Hardship Fund, raising over ￡11,000 in a few short days, was established.The fund carried no administration costs, with each penny going directly to the members.
