The seven winners of the 2008 National Wetlands Awards were recognized at an evening ceremony on May 13 at the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, D.C.rnThis event honored the extraordinary commitment and achievements of leaders from around the country in wetland conservation.rn"These wetland champions are restoring and protecting one of America's greatest natural assets through education, conservation, and dedication," said Benjamin H. Grumbles, the EPA's Assistant Administrator for Water, who gave the keynote address.rn"These profiles, both in courage and in stewardship, show us all how to meet the president's national goal of increasing, not simply maintaining, the quantity and quality of our wetlands." "Wetlands gains exceeded losses between 1998 and 2004. . . . But there are other key areas, key aspects of wetlands that are not meeting that no net loss goal."
