HAVE been retained pro bono by Plaintiffs to provide expert testimony regarding the historical knowledge of the U.S. federal government (including Defendants) of climate change, climate science, and alternative pathways to power the nation's energy system other than fossil fuels. I will also testify about the decisions made by the U.S. federal government to devise and pursue energy policies and, in particular, to maintain a fossil-fuel-based energy system. By the end of the Carter administration in January 1981, more than four decades ago, it was already very clear that: 1. Defendants knew the basic science of climate change and knew that the continued burning of high levels of fossil fuels would lead to climate danger; and 2. Defendants knew of pathways recommended by experts within government and others to transition away from fossil fuels, including through conservation, efficiency, and solar and other renewables.
