The city is connected to Dublin via Carrick-on-Shannon in Leitrim by the National Primary Road N4, which has seen major improvements in recent times; the Sligo-Dublin rail line, with stops in Carrick-on-Shannon and Dromod Co. Leitrim, which now boasts seven trains per day in each direction having introduced new railcars in 2007; and the twice daily commuter flight service to Dublin from Sligo airport.
