The MoD has confirmed to union officials there could be job losses at Babcock's Rosyth naval dockyard, after it was claimed the company might cut the yard's capacity in return for a Government contract at the Faslane naval base. Unions claim plans to cut Rosyth to one berth could result in the loss of 1,000 jobs, a figure previously dismissed by the Government and Babcock. In a submission to the MoD, the unions said privatisation could lead to the closure of Rosyth dockyard, despite a Government pledge of guaranteed work up to 2007.
