Hofmeister Retiring As Head of Shell's U.S. Unit

John Hofmeister, head of Royal Dutch/Shell's U.S. affiliate for the past three years, will retire as the company's president, effective June 1, to be replaced by Marvin Odum, currently executive vice president for the Americas for Shell Exploration and Production. Hofmeister was among the first U.S. oil industry executives to endorse a national cap-and-trade system for greenhouse gases, declaring in October 2006 that the debate on climate change was over. Odum, who has overseen Shell's exploration and production businesses in the Americas since May 2005, said in a statement that the company must do more to help mitigate climate change.
