Exelon Corp. announced Saturday that it plans to join the FutureGen Alliance, the non-profit industrial coalition seeking to develop at a site in Matoon, Ill., a 275 megawatt gasified coal power plant that will capture 90 percent of its carbon dioxide emissions and also generate hydrogen.rnFutureGen, initially the crown jewel of the Bush administration's technology-based approach to climate change, fell out of favor in the final year of the administration due to mounting concerns within the Energy Department about its escalating costs, which had risen from an estimated $952 million in 2004 to $1.8 billion by 2008.
