Exelon Corp. Joins FutureGen Alliance; Energy Department Mulls Options for Support

Hopes for full-scale development of the first coal-fired, near-zero emissions power plant rose Jan. 30 when energy company Exelon Corp. announced its intention to join the FutureGen Alliance, the public-private partnership formed to design, construct, and operate the green energy project in Maftoon, Ill. The announcement comes one month before Energy Secretary Steven Chu is scheduled to announce a final decision on federal support for the FutureGen project.
