European oil producers urge national governments to adopt carbon pricing

In a surprising new development in the international response to climate change, the chief executives of six European ma­jor oil companies last week wrote to the United Nations climate secretariat urging national governments participating in U.N.-brokered negotiations on a new cli­mate treaty-to be finalized in Paris at the end of the year-to embrace development of a global carbon pricing scheme.
