Chesapeake, Total settle Texas royalty claims for $52 million

Chesapeake Energy and a Total subsidiary Monday agreed to pay $52.5 million to about 13,000 mostly small landowners in the Barnett shale region of northern Texas who said the companies had underpaid royalties for several years by improperly withholding post-production costs.
