Rcep Calls For Tougher Nanotech Measures

Mandatory risk reporting is needed for nanomaterials, says the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution. Further research is also urgently needed but the Commission does not want a ban on nanomaterials. The Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution (RCEP) has published a report on nanotechnology which calls for mandatory reporting and urgent action on testing and regulation. The report has met with a warm welcome tinged by a sense of deja vu. Many of the recommendations echo those made four years ago in a study by the Royal Society and Royal Academy of Engineering (ENDS Report 357, pp 30-35)- But the RCEP, the government's longest-established environmental advisory body, goes further on issues of governance.
