The European Commission needs to revise its approach to state aid for renewables, energy and climate secretary Chris Huhne told the House of Commons Energy and Climate Change Committee in November.1 In October, the energy and climate department (DECC) had to cut planned support for large biomass projects after the European Commission said the UK's rate was too high (see p 49). "We obviously regret [that] decision," said Mr Huhne, giving evidence on DECC's annual accounts. "There is a wider issue here... if the commission takes that view on biomass, it may well take that view on all sorts of other things.
