UK lags behind Ireland on EVs

Electric vehicle drivers in Ireland have 1,000 charge-points to choose from, covering 85% of towns. Ireland is ahead of the UK in setting up a nationwide smart electric vehicle (EV) charging network. Its system, run by national electricity utility ESB and global IT giant IBM, will also connect to Northern Ireland. Drivers of electric cars and vans can pay to charge their vehicle at hundreds of public charge-points using a swipe-card, regardless of their electricity provider.
