Government CO_2 cuts need 'step change'

Several major departments, including DECC, increased their CO_2 emissions during 2012/13. But better progress is being made on cutting water use and waste. It is "clear that a step change in effort is needed" if the government is to meet its own CO_2 target for 2015, the Cabinet Office has admitted. Since 2009/10, the government has cut emissions across its estate by 14%. But that level needs to increase to 25% by April 2015 - something that will be "extremely challenging".
