DfT looks to upgrade role of renewable fuels in transport

A higher renewable fuel target, greater fuel variation and the extension of targets to cover aviation fuel are among government proposals to decarbonise the transport sector. In a consultation, published on 29 November, the Department for Transport (DfT) examines how the industry can meet a long-term goal for new cars and vans to be zero emission by 2050 and help towards the 15% renewable energy target for 2020 in the EU's Renewable Energy Directive (RED).
