Putting people at the heart of environmental assessment

Q What does your current role involve?A Currently I'm focused on conducting environmental impact assessments (EIA) and sustainability appraisal (SA) reviews for clients. Bidwells' history in Cambridge and strategic work on the Cambridge-Oxford-Milton Keynes (CaMkOx) Arc makes my work quite place-based, something I enjoy. Delivering a rail line, expressway and one million homes by 2050 along the Arc, from Cambridge to Oxford via Milton Keynes, is the equivalent of building a new city out of existing settlements, while avoiding protected areas. This is an enormous opportunity in which environmental planners will play a key role. As an American I'm particularly struck by the rejection of sprawl and the creation of what could be a new suburban vision.
