摘要

After five years, £13 million and enough column inches to fill a phonebook, Frank Gehry's King Alfred scheme in Brighton is dead. The announcement was made on Sunday evening (9 November) and is a miserable end for the controversial £290 million project - yet another high-profile victim of the financial crisis. The project, dubbed 'Tin Can Towers', was designed alongside HOK Sport and Piers Gough's practice CZWG, with the backing of local developer Karis, which had brokered a deal with Dutch bank ING.
