All congratulations to ACME and their clients for winning the Manser Medal last week. A concise presentation ceremony at the RIBA was a reminder of the skill and commitment that goes into that tricky piece of architectural business: the one-off house.A good reason for the Manser Medal is the difficulty that any house has when it comes to winning the Stirling Prize. It should not be impossible but it hasn't happened yet. This may not be too surprising when you think about the competition that great houses had from other architectural gems in the years when they were completed.
