You wouldn't believe it, looking atthe corporate behemoths dominating the skylines of the City or Canary Wharf, but it's small and medium-sized businesses that are the backbone of London's economy. They provide a little over half of the jobs in the capital and nearly as high a proportion of business revenue. Many of those SMEs are also new ones. A staggering one fifth of all businesses in London are only a few years old, and almost of all these will inevitably be small businesses.
