COMPARED to the traditional dry sueding technique - which leads to handle and appearance effects resulting from the partial removal of fibrous material and originates a more or less dense and accentuated surface pile formation - wet sueding distinguishes itself in achieving new and different effects, such as surface softening without any pile formation being perceivable to the touch, and surface appearances similar to discoloration and/or ageing. The water in the fabric carries out a sort of fibre lubricating' action which allows a generally more superficial abrading action, fibrous material removal lower pile raising, despite the development of short and thick pile and a lower resistance loss of the treated fabric. Rather than being considered as a separate treatment, wet sueding should be included in a complete processing where both previous preparation treatments and subsequent finishing operations take place.
