There was a full house at the Holiday Inn, Reading West, to hear Norman Green describe the history of the EMI team that invented practical television. The team, led by Isaac Shoenberg, was formed in 1932 and consisted of about 100 graduates, technical assistants and support staff. It was one of the finest groups of engineers and scientists ever assembled in an industrial company. Based on the theories put forward by Campbell Swinton in 1908 and 1911 the team invented a wholly electronic system of 405 lines and 2.5MHz - a huge leap forward from early TV's mechanical scanning at 30 lines and a bandwidth of 5KHz. They developing everything from the camera through to the transmitter and receiver.
