State "do-not-call" list proposals usually either require telephone subscribers to submit their requests not to receive telephone marketing calls to a state agency or require telephone companies to place a mark or some other indication in the telephone directory next to the names and telephone numbers of subscribers who do not wish to receive such calls. Marketers must purchase a copy of the do-not-call list and delete the names and numbers from their calling lists.
